Handling gemstones is a task of precision. Even though both precious and semi-precious stones are durable but they still require certain degree of care. Here are a few points to keep in mind to ensure gem care –

• Always keep your gemstones clean. However, there has to be a difference in the way you clean different types of gemstones. In order to clean transparent or crystalline gemstones you must just keep them soaked in slightly soapy water. On the other hand, if you are dealing with opaque gemstones such as turquoise or lazuli then clean them with a gentle wipe of a moist cloth.

• Do not put semi-precious gem stones into ultrasonic or chemical cleansers. This can cause damage to the stones.

• Do not bring your gemstones in contact with perfumes or chemical scents.

• Do not snuggle various pieces of gemstones together. Keeping each gemstone separate helps in maintaining its polish and keeps it as beautiful as new.
